This memorial makes an indelible mark on the urban grid of lower Manhattan as a means of forever memorializing the events of 9/11. Two new plazas paved in dark gray granite define the shadows cast by the World Trade Center towers in the moments before they fell. The plazas begin at the footprints of the towers and extend out onto the Hudson River. The names of those who perished are etched into the granite at locations equal to where they were when the buildings fell. The footprints are flooded to reflect the sky, reminding us of the fluidity of life and our connection to Source. The historic city grid is restored, resulting in new blocks that can be redeveloped democratically, one building at a time, allowing the city to heal organically.
