This structure is intended as the companion to the Town Center Pavilion, located on the west side of Seaside’s town center. While the obelisk marks a point in the landscape and functions as an icon for the town, this pavilion provides an internally focused, meditative space for display and the meeting of community groups. A monumental stair leads to a rooftop observation platform offering views of the Gulf of Mexico. The elemental structure is constructed of heavy timbers overlaid with horizontal siding, allowing the penetration of light and sea breezes into its core. The observation platform is punctured in the center by an oculus, allowing downward views of the ever-changing shaft of sunlight in the internal court below.
