West Seattle - Sunset Ave

This West Seattle house is composed of a sequence of spaces designed to take the user from the street level through a calming courtyard and into an airy, light-filled main room with subtle architectural geometry and views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

West Seattle, WA

This design focuses on the procession of entry. From the street, one encounters and moves through a garden wall into a tranquil entry court containing water, river rock, bamboo, and a bridge. The bridge leads to a wood-plank door opening on to a glass and steel stair. The procession continues upwards through the living area and ends on a cantilevered balcony stretching to the edge of a 100 foot high cliff overlooking Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains beyond. The house contains three levels with vertical openings throughout. The master suite – the cloud room – located on the top level, is edged in translucent panels, giving the room the illusion of floating within the cubic volume. A roof deck accesses a 360 degree view.
